Jason and Alicia Ardoin's island home offers endless opportunities for entertaining groups of friends and family and the open spaces also provide the perfect setting for elegant and extravagant holiday decor. The 6,300-square-foot home offers Christmas cheer at every turn including the main living areas, bedrooms and tabletops. The unique floor plan evolved from the original structure that was built in the 60s, with an addition decades later. The home's taller profile allows for soaring ceilings and large windows, plus there's an advantage for those who live on the island: The view. Why did you decide on this home. : Location, location, location. Beautiful views and a nice, big yard, a hard thing to come by on the island. One thing I'd change about my house: I'd love for my staircase to make more of a statement, to be more open and visible. I get ideas/inspiration for my house. I love looking at what other people do in their homes. I look at things on the internet, i. e. Houzz, etc. One room in my house was designed around a chair I loved. Something no one knows about my home: We have an indoor pool, although if you've been here, you'd immediately discover this feature. I save lots of money on my home by. I don't know if it's lots but definitely some by managing improvement projects myself, rather than using a (general contractor). A home item I can't live without: (A four-foot), cast iron, Hibachi-style griddle in the kitchen. Places where I find home furnishings: Locally, Buddy Walker, Citas. Many furnishings have come from other places. My dining room table and china cabinet were made in Peru. My home's best feature: Not a stitch of carpet (aside from area rugs). I love that. I can get almost anything off of tile or wood, no shampooing carpets. My dream home would include. A current home trend I like: I love faux finishes on the walls and the distressed look for furniture and cabinet work that gives an Old World look and feel. Three words that describe my home: Welcoming, unique, comfortable. If my kitchen walls could talk: They would ask for a gas stove. okay maybe that's me. My kitchen walls would probably describe the many wonderful conversations and happy times shared with family and friends, while having the best gumbo on the Island. What I like most about my home: Its uniqueness. I think if I had built, I would have ended up with a more predictable floor plan. Our home is so different from any other house I've seen. For example, my ceiling heights range from seven feet in the older part of the house to 18 feet in the living room. The same is true for the size of the rooms, some are tiny while others are large. What I like least about my home: With the exception of the master, the bedrooms don't have connected bathrooms. My home's most complimented feature: Everyone loves the bar, the indoor pool gets a lot of reaction, too. Favorite room: My living room. I love the furnishings, it has a great view and it feels comfortable. My next home project: My bathroom and closet. A funny story about my home: We bought our home from people we met on a fishing trip to the Bahamas. Had we not taken the trip to the Bahamas, we might not have met (them) and may have never bought our home because they never listed the house for sale. I'll never throw out my. Christmas decorations, because you can't have too many. The most I have ever paid for an item in my home: My Steinway piano. I can't believe I put this in my home: Deer mounts. They are confined to my son's room, despite Jason's pleas. Jason won the battle to place his 210-pound Yellowfin Tuna in the living. Three items homeowners definitely need are. A big dining table, a well-stocked bar, and a tape measure. I'm currently in search of this for my home: Wardrobe/media wall for my bedroom. Biggest pet peeve about my home: Keeping the windows clean. There are a lot of windows here. Worst home advice I ever received: Good fences make good neighbors. One of the things I love most about our home is the neighborhood we live in. Best home advice I ever received: Hire someone when you don't know how to fix/do something.
